Tomato lovers will once again gather for Mr Ottorino’s annual passata party this weekend in Fitzroy.


Free for the whole family to enjoy, Mr Ottorino will host its annual Passata Party on Monday March 12, in celebration of the not-so-humble tomato.


All those keen to learn the secrets of making this famous Italian sauce are welcomed to join the festivities under the watch of Executive Chef, Matteo Tine and his team. Guests are invited to partake in the official tomato-crushing and basil-bottling, learning about a tradition that takes place in most Italian homes this time of year, when the luscious fruit is at its freshest.


Lunch will be available throughout the event, with a range of tomato inspired dishes on the menu, such as a gluten free gnocchi passata, with basil and parmigiano and the restaurant’s signature Pollo alla Diavola or

‘Devil’s Chicken’, garnished with crushed cucumber, tomato, garlic basil, and lemon. Those who are just looking for a snack can sink their teeth into the roman arancini, with passata, mozzarella and pesto or the fried calzone.


The team at Mr Ottorino is renowned for re-creating traditional recipes with modern techniques; for those yet to experience the local Fitzroy gem Mr Ottorino is a slice of Southern Italy in the heart of Fitzroy. The venue is filled with unique collectors pieces, sourced from the Italian families that are the backbone of Mr. Ottorino.


Passata Party goers will take home a complimentary bottle of Passata with every lunch purchase.
